In this sacred ceremony, the Great Spirit of Horse awakens the power of gentleness in your human awareness. Horses embody these two seemingly distinct qualities simultaneously with majestic grace, showing us how they co-exist and serve as a unified life-giving force. It’s now Horse’s great honour to activate this innate awareness and divine inheritance, especially in your heart, a holy consciousness you share with its boundless Oversoul.
Majestic is a perfect descriptor for the message and medicine of Horse. This Spirit Animal teaches us that the true royalty of our soul, and its expressions in kindness, beauty and dignity, manifest from power and gentleness woven gracefully together in our heart. Without heartfelt appreciation for gentleness, power is not divine and serving others; it’s false, aggressive, arrogant and self-serving. Horse medicine is here to help end a long dark age of suffering under oppressive and manipulative governance — under false, patriarchal power; to wake us from a cultural spell that prizes toughness and bravado over gentleness, and normalizes abuse and coercion in such institutions as education, politics, entertainment and religion.
Amongst this push for global power, the Spirit of Horse is here to help you slow and soften into the exquisitely divine quality of humility, one of the faces of gentle power. It’s here, in this ceremony, to assist your realization of power in humility, and humility in true power. If you have ever sat on a Horse, you may remember what it felt like the first time you got in the saddle. Like myself, right away you might have been struck by the immensity of raw power beneath you. A new level of respect was likely born in that moment for this magnificent being, along with humility. This humility comes not just from feeling vulnerable to the Horse’s power, but feeling appreciatively into how humble, or gentle, the Horse is in his or her power.
Where power and gentleness meet in the heart, coalescing into one, humility can be found. Horses teach this with their beautiful majestic hearts. They radiate it to the world. This is such an important part of their message and medicine, their loving spirit, that has them honoured across time. We cannot be crowned by and lead from the majesty of our sovereign divinity, guiding others to their own, without humility. We cannot share our gentle power with the world without this heartfelt, immaculate quality.
Power, gentleness, humility, beauty — these and other Horse qualities our world is ready for, as we awaken into a more spiritually mature, heartfelt consciousness, a new kind of Divine Feminine leadership, and out of the patriarchal dream of distorted, power-hungry living.
This collective rebirth is ending a long dark story, not only of abuse to humans, but to Horses as well (and all animal life). It is my opinion that Horses have been one of the most used and abused animals in human history. Aside from being confined to slave labor, whipped, spurred, and fed steroids, these deeply sensitive animals have been ravaged in countless battles, in the swording mayhem of yesteryear and on the policed streets of today. Forcing these majestic beings into this chaos has been like pushing a square peg in a round hole. It goes against their highly gentle nature and acute sensitivity. Hence the untold trauma they’ve endured.
Participating in this ceremony anchors the holy consciousness of Horse onto Gaia and helps create a new altruistic healing story for Horses, Humanity and Mother Earth. Horse is here to heal the parts of you that feel safer being strong than soft; parts that saved you, because tough and defended is how you had to be to survive abusive, unpredictable and unstable environments. Gentleness, and its expressions of vulnerability and tenderness, were not welcome or useful, let alone safe. For men, an aversion to gentleness has been especially thematic. A conditioned proclivity towards stoic toughness and away from tender tears has, for thousands of years, caused men to harden their hearts and overlook the gentle in gentleman.
Doesn’t the world need more dignified and powerful gentlemen — men imbuing the balanced qualities of Horse?

For example, you can state: “I want to feel safer being gentle”; or, “I want to heal my judgements (fears) towards weakness / tears”; or, “Please help me lower my shield of strength / stoicism and open my heart.”
The shield was never the problem; rather it’s been our attachment to it — the default need to be strong and defended, even when there is no need to be, such as when we’re with our 3-year-old. What can help to loosen our grip and heal is paying homage to how our strength / shield served and saved us, which can be a powerful and emotional process. Gratitude, self-compassion (particularly towards our Inner Star Child), and forgiveness loosen our identification with fear, resentment and judgment. When felt in our heart, they create inner space for raising our shield from conscious choice versus unconscious reaction, and then lowering it and placing it to the side. Strength and power are realized not just in necessary protection, but in the open-hearted grace of vulnerability and gentleness. Horse is here to support you with this.
Horse medicine also helps to uncouple the belief “I may get hurt / hurt another” from power / being in your power. In other words, this Spirit Animal can transmute the quantum roots of “power is dangerous” to you, or others, which makes it safer to own your power, and trust the genuine power of others. Given the history of abuse on this planet — that people have been shamed, punished and killed for expressing their true power — these fear associations, this coupling, often inherited from our ancestors, is very common.
The history of children witnessing or directly experiencing violence — parent-to-parent, parent-to-sibling, parent-to-self, sibling-to-self, caregiver-to-self — has contributed immensely to unhealthy, fearful relationships with power. These adverse childhood experiences impress ideas of false, destructive power on impressionable minds and hearts, convincing little ones that power is unsafe, bad, and to be avoided. Creative expression, speaking one’s truth, setting boundaries, standing out (versus fitting in), healthy anger, and more, are stifled due to trauma and limiting beliefs. And accepting, normalizing and engaging in abuses of power are more likely, a pervasive pattern clearly witnessed during the Covid era.
Again, using your intentions, you can ask for healing on this — on uncoupling fear from power, and making it safe, natural and joyous to be wild and free in your Horse Power.
