Welcoming Change ~ 3 Ways to Respond to Uncertainty

Change is not easy. We are forced to leave the familiar and venture into the unknown. We’re not clear where we are going, how we will get there, and if we’ll be ok. But whether we like it or not, slowly we are being pulled into the unchartered. There are three ways we tend to respond when faced with the inexorable pull of change: 1. Force: We make rash decisions and anxiously push our way through. We want it to be over with. 2. Denial: We act passively, pretending change is not happening, even though we know it is. 3. Acceptance: We lead from our belly, acting as a conscious participant, and accepting the truth of the situation no matter how uncomfortable it feels. In […]

Underachieve a Little

“If it’s not fun, you’re not doing it right.” ~ Bob Basso. One of the things that most limits play in my playshops is the need to get things right. The cure? Telling participants to practice “underachieving a little”. When practiced, they’re surprised at how much more creative and connected they are and, paradoxically, how much more they achieve. Rules, judgments, inhibitions and outcomes are let go. The relaxed state creates room for inspired engagement and unexpected and delicious possibilities. “One of the advantages of being disorganized is that one is always having surprising discoveries.” ~ A.A. Milne Perhaps it’s: Not trying so hard to control your next meeting Not planning your next conversation ahead of time Trusting something is good enough as is Trusting you […]

Magical Inner Child

“Today isn’t Monday. It’s a moment. A field of moments like a meadow of daisies. Every moment offers another chance to get present and choose love instead of fear. As you answer emails, go to the doctor, pick up the children: practice breathing in a new moment with new and infinite possibilities that exceed your mind’s limitations. It’s not Monday. It’s a stream of chances to be alive.” ~ Tama Kieves. This is the playful mindset from which our Magical Inner Child sees and lives life! Take a moment, and connect to the Magical Inner Child in You! Imagine allowing your Magical Inner Child to take the lead on this Monday. Imagine she held the reins. What would she direct you to do? How would she respond to your […]

Allow for a Day

What if for just one day you have complete faith in the unfolding of your life? What if for just one day you allow life to be as it is, and practice the Spirit of Yes And by accepting what is? Instead of questioning, judging or condemning why something is the way it is, you allow it to be as it is Instead of trying to change someone, you allow them to be as they are Instead of proving your point, you state the basic facts and allow the rest to be Instead of directing the flow of conversation, you allow the flow to present itself to you Instead of being angry and flustered when stuck in traffic, you trust the traffic is working for […]

Discovering Life Through Uncertainty

Discovering Life Through Uncertainty

Yesterday I used to sing a song That carried me through the night The other day I seemed to have it all But now, I cannot seem to fight And when I try to hold on to it I seem to hardly let go It’s time to face my fears It’s time to show my soul In time I’ll lose myself In time I’ll cry my dreams away In time I’ll be myself again And fall away “When we are not sure, we are alive.” ~ Graham Greene In moments when we’ve lost our sense of certainty we can feel powerless, lost and confused. We lose faith in ourselves to direct our life. While these moments challenge us to the core, they are the fertile […]

Float Before You Fly

“Security by itself will never produce what we crave the most – a life rich in joy and meaning. Our uncertain times are profound opportunities for personal growth. As soon as we muster the courage to explore uncharted territory without a compass, we discover our powerful internal GPS. Instead of being frightened by uncertainty, accept your uncomfortable feelings as an invitation to connect more deeply with your spirituality.” ~ Doris Helge Today, more than ever, we are seeing people floating in their lives, uncertain of their life direction. Youth are finding it harder to know and commit to a career path, educated adults are leaving high paying jobs to travel or take on a simple, less stressful low paying job, and seekers are spending more time […]
